Bob Rafelson, the Oscar-nominated director of Five Easy Pieces, is dead at age 89

The filmmaker was an icon of independent film production in the 1960s and '70s, though he continued to work into the early 2000s. He died at his home in Aspen, Colorado, of natural causes.
